Wharton's Haunted House

[The Mount's stable after dark. Designed by the Newport architectural firm Hoppin & Koen, the 1902 structure is Georgian Revival in style.]

No doubt one of the most beautiful haunted houses in the U.S., The Mount welcomes visitors again this year for a series of Ghost Tours. Edith Wharton, who of course created her home in Lenox, Massachusetts, above Laurel Lake, was fascinated by the supernatural and wrote her own ghost stories. This year's events -- part of her 150th birthday celebrations -- include ongoing Friday Night Fright tours, Chilling Tales on Saturday, October 27, and the special Halloween Ghost Tour.
