Art Historians: Craig Ashley Hanson
It might not be everyone's idea of poolside material, but Craig Ashley Hanson's recently published book, The English Virtuoso: Art, Medicine, and Antiquarianism in the Age of Empiricism, sounds intriguing enough to add to a summer reading list. (And, yes, the cover is definitely alluring.) Last night while checking out Dr. Hanson's website, I discovered some great resources, such as Enfilade, a blog for historians of 18th-Century art and architecture.
I also like that the professor took time to share that his early love for art history was encouraged by a gift membership to the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis from his Aunt Lola.
BTW: While I'm thinking about art and organization, some of you have asked for help finding past posts about framing. It's simple; just click the Framing Art label and continue to scroll down. For display ideas, try Collecting Art. Oh, and for those who read this blog in email and miss the sidebar updates, be sure to see artist Sarah Graham's site. Her work is on the latest cover of House Beautiful.
