Service Opportunities II

For those of us who are passionate about houses and design, there are all sorts of opportunities to roll up our sleeves and lend a helping hand to someone in need. Just one example is spearheaded by Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans. This organization hosts thousands of volunteers from around the country who come to help rebuild the Crescent City. The next volunteer weekend takes place Saturday and Sunday, February 7 and 8. To learn more about this group's efforts, click here.

The site also has a quick and easy guide to architectural styles.

In other news that reflects the spirit of the day, RL Magazine features an interesting story about the conservation of the Star Spangled Banner.

I was on the board at Fort McHenry, where the flag originally flew and we got a private tour of the restoration about four years ago, when they were in the early stages of the project. It was fascinating.
