Working in Style: Hoyt-Levasseur

A peek into an old inspiration notebook uncovered the office of Heather Hoyt and Alison Levasseur. Back in 2000, something possessed me to paste tears from magazines collage-style onto the notebook pages, so please forgive all the rough edges here.

When these photos were taken, (House Beautiful, circa 2002) the Hoyt-Levasseur interior design team said they were experiencing a Chinese moment -- an over-the-top Chinese moment. Note the large red lacquer work desk juxtaposed with pink walls, and what I think are aubergine patent leather chairs. Remember too that six years ago displays of coral would have been a fresh look.

Update: click here for more on Juju hats (feather headdresses) from Cameroon. For more shopping options visit Branca.

Even all of these years later, it still looks fresh.

Meg, it does seem that they were ahead of their time with the Billy Haines-inspired lamps and other similar things that can now found at CB2 :)

I tore out this same article. I'm not sure, but I think the duo disbanded, which is a shame because I would have liked to see more of their work.

Jennifer -- it is a shame. Their closet design had even been in Elle Decor. It was ahead of the curve too -- red lacquer-like acrylic pieces, zebra carpet, Greek key :)

Or maybe I should say it was "back to the future." They definitely had nods to the old masters.

Still looks like a very cute room that couldve been done last week!
What I would do for bookshelves as neat and organized as that!

Lovely post. Any idea what the feathered object on the right wall is? It looks "tribal" more than oriental.

Hi Anon -- I think it is a headdress, probably African?

I read once that you need to be careful about where you buy a Cameroon headdress b/c some people have had issues with bugs!!! (I know that would not be a problem with those from Branca!)
