Around the World

I've just started reading a fascinating book, Around the World: The Grand Tour in Photo Albums. Filled with vintage travel diaries, it's the perfect gift for an adventurous spirit. Highlights include flapper Vera Talbot's Far East jaunt and Chicagoan Clara Whitcomb's journey to Egypt, Please stop by Monday for a sneak peek inside and a full review.

Oh, and a globe-trotter chic reminder: Exoticism opens November 27 at F.I.T. The exhibition will highlight 250 years of exoticism in fashion, from the age of colonialism to the rise of globalization. Work influenced by Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and North African styles, from more than 40 modern designers including, Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Tam, Oscar de la Renta, and Chanel will be featured along with 18th-and 19th-century textiles.

Anything in that book about Morocco? I am having a fixation with that part of the world lately and riding a camel through the sand dunes. Happy reading and I will check back on Monday.

Oh, I just saw this book! So fantastic. I just received a fellowship to work on some photographs of English country houses (many of which are in similar albums), so this is inspiring.
