Style Court

Nine Years of Textiles, Art History, Gardens, and a Little Mental Traveling with Courtney Barnes

Style Withdrawal, Another English Garden, and Mary McDonald and Co.

Inspired by Shane Connolly's latest project, I set out Sunday looking for lily-of-the-valley. Although I struck out, I did pick up a few white blossoming plants. But if you're experiencing style withdrawal in the wake of last Friday's main event, another jaw-droppingly beautiful display of flowers can be seen via the app I mentioned 4.23.11, Vogue's new Met Gala for iPad. As promised, it automatically updates itself this week with previews of Raul Avila's design for the bash to celebrate Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, the major exhibition opening May 4 at the Met. Vogue's Hamish Bowles says Avila has created a moonlit English garden complete with a special Tree-of-Life.

In terms of design, Atlanta has a highly-anticipated event scheduled this week too.

Mary McDonald will be joined by Nathan Turner, Kathryn Ireland, Jeffrey Alan Marks and Martyn Lawrence-Bullard -- the entire cast of Bravo's Million Dollar Decorators -- for a panel discussion moderated by Veranda's own Dara Caponigro at ADAC on Friday, May 6. The public is invited but registration is required. Get all the details here. Curtains, sofas and pretty trims aside, I'd love to know what former milliner Mary might have worn to the Royal Wedding!
