Holiday Studio Sale (and the Hovey Sisters)

Save the date! Photographer and mixed-media artist Diane Hughes is joining painters Sharon Dowell and Laura McCarthy for a holiday party and open studio sale, Thursday, December 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 1900 North Brevard Street in Charlotte. Small, more affordable works will be the focus.

Thinking about artists and photographers, my mind drifts to Porter Hovey.  Two years ago, I asked a group of tastemakers, designers and artists about their favorite holiday wrappings. Porter and her sister, Hollister, had such an original response: a big roll of seamless black studio paper. Ever since then, I try to sneak little reminders into subsequent blog posts. If you're looking for something handsome and rich that's free of fussiness, check out their ideas here.

Update 3:43 p.m.
Work by Lauren DiCioccio, an artist discussed in this past post, is highlighted this afternoon at 20 x 200.

Thanks for the information on the Charlotte event, I will try to attend. I did get to meet Wolf Kahn at the opening here last week which was wonderful. Happy Thanksgiving!
