Nine Years of Textiles, Art History, Gardens, and a Little Mental Traveling with Courtney Barnes

Sweet Liberty

Liberty of London's fall 2010 series of sewing and knitting classes, Liberty Stitch, starts tomorrow so this Atlanta find seems timely. Above is a detail view of a 19th-century English needlepoint rug hand-worked, according to dealer Allan Arthur, in wool by Liberty. (The venerable London emporium has been in business for 135 years.) It's actually a copy of an earlier Shirvan rug that appears to have been interpreted with fashionable Victorian Crazy Quilt colors. See the entire rug here.
