Birmingham Weekend

The countdown is fast approaching: Sunday, September 12 is the last day to see Pattern, Costume and Ornament, an exhibition at the Birmingham Museum of Art that explores how design and decoration figure in the work of select African and African-American artists. Visitors can look forward to seeing photographs, works on paper, sculpture, and quilts from artists including Fred Wilson, Odili Donald Odita, Jeff Donaldson, Carrie Mae Weems, and more.

And on the Saturday night before the show's closing, the museum hosts the Second Annual Sankofa Society Soirée from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. Based on this YouTube video about last year's debut event, it looks like the collectors and art enthusiasts had a great time.
