SCAD Atlanta Scholarship Gala

[Carlos Antonio Uva Playera, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2004, Mixed media, 24.5" x 33", $500.]

Carlos Antonio's mixed media leaf, shown above, is an example of the original artwork created by SCAD students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends that will be offered in a silent auction during the third annual SCAD Atlanta Scholarship Gala, Thursday, April 8 at the university’s 1600 Peachtree Street location.

For VIP ticket holders, the event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a collectors’ preview reception, an exclusive "buy it now" auction option and an opportunity to meet honorary chair Cornelia Guest. As you may remember from this past post, the SCAD Museum of Art (in Savannah) owns an extensive array of items (more than 400 objects actually) that once belonged to Guest's mother, fashion icon C.Z. Guest, and select pieces from the museum's C.Z. Guest Costume Collection will be on display in Atlanta during the gala.

[Iconic Slim Aarons photograph of C.Z. Guest, Michael Smith-designed interior for Lori Laughlin and Mossimo Giannulli, as seen in Michael S. Smith: Elements of Style, Rizzoli, 2005.]

The start time for cocktail ticket holders is 7:30 p.m. Cocktail tickets are priced at $150; VIP tickets are $275.  Click here for more ticket information and general party details, and even if you have no plans to attend, check out the range of featured art here.

Puerto Rican-born Carlos Antonio currently lives in Savannah, Georgia. He has degrees in biology and the humanities, and is now working on his M.F.A. in painting at SCAD.  In his work, the artist strives to turn often overlooked details into things of beauty.
