Branching Out

[Photo by Tara Donne for Martha Stewart Weddings, fall 2009]

Each morning last week, after scanning the news headlines, I hopped over to d*s to enjoy fresh coverage of the Savannah wedding. All of those shots of Orleans Square, live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, and Chef Nick Mueller's food were a welcome respite, and I was sorry to see the series end on Friday.

But over the weekend I got my Southern tree fix when I popped in to see photographer Mark Starnes' exhibition at Providence Antiques. Some of the work is social documentary with a bit of an edge and the show also includes mysterious landscapes. Many of the prints range from $95 to $400, although sprinkled throughout the shop are wonderful tiny unframed photographs priced at $15. Look for the wall of branches (actually pictures tacked to a support beam) and scenes of weepy moss tucked in a mirror frame. Mark's work will remain on view through the end of the month.

There is a new window display at Providence Antiques. What a treat these are for neighbors who look.
