I think I've only mentioned Melissa Rufty once before (years ago she collaborated with Jane Scott Hodges on an enchanting chinoiserie nursery). Today, though, there are many fresh images of her work to see here. And as her design colleague Adrienne Casbarian points out, Melissa has used wonderful Andrew Bucci works on paper in several houses: above, the black-and-whites, and below, in a guest room.
It's the figure in the center. Melissa boldly juxtaposed it with a wild toile. I agree with Adrienne, the mix just enhances the lively sense of movement in Bucci's work. (Yes, the linens are from Leontine!)
Be sure to click over and look at Melissa's other projects. I think you will be inspired by her style and approach to incorporating her clients' art in their rooms.

You have to love a girl who uses color like that. Terrific.
I feel the same way. And despite the strong color, I don't feel as if I'm in a jelly bean factory.
I love the way she mixes bold patterns and bright colors. You've got to love a girl with gusto!

Fantastic color palette! I absolutely love it!
I love love her use of colors and graphics. Leontine linens are hands down THE most beautiful for monogrammed linens.
plantation is really a great showroom. The staff is always really helpful, knowledgeable and the product is of great quality. my 2 cents! ; )
I've been having a thing for yellow curtains these day. Heading to Leontine now...
Everyone -- thanks for stopping by! I'm so pleased by the positive response to color. Very layered color in fact.
I absolutely LOVE her look. Love, love. And I did not know about her! Thanks so much for this post!
Oh, that twin bedroom is seriously beautiful. Love her use of colour!
Love, love, love this. Of course she's in New Orleans, yet another reason to love my city. So inspiring. I love the ethnic touches plus color! Very lush. Afrosippi Glam. I'll have to drop by to do some window shopping.
That woman is absolutely fearless when it comes to pattern! Thanks for the introduction. And thanks to Jamey for teaching me a new phrase: "Afrosippi Glam!"
Love Melissa's work and Adrienne's too! Now if I can just figure out how they make everything look so fabulous all of the time! They had a great client on this that made for a great collaboration. I went into the house on a tour this fall and it is knock your socks off --every room! The best is the turquoise lacquer den with a white plaster chandelier! Wow!

Anyone who can make a home look simultaneously old school and contemporary is a genius in my opinion. Great color choices too.
That bottom image is gorgeous- it's great inspiration for anyone who is afraid of color but who would like to start experimenting with it.
Repeatedly said already. But what’s not to love in this perfectly accomplished used of colors and patters.
That toile is Manuel Canovas, yes? I love his irreverent toiles - the wacky color combos are so funky! Beautiful use of them w/ other patterns and textures. Thanks once again for the beautiful pics!
Annie -- I believe it is but I'll have to confirm with Melissa. Thanks for the kind words!
W.O.W.
Stunning! This just blew me away. I was looking for inspiration and I sure found it here--thanks Courtney! The first thing I thought of when I saw this was Anna Spiro. (Similar fearlessness with color.)
I noted than in Melissa's work the contemporary vibe is achieved only through the use of color and fabric. Everything else is old. What a great way to "freshen up" while still maintaining one's antiques!
Anon -- yes, you nailed her mix of old and new! The next post in fact will mention that :)
Love the vivid color and combination of prints, colors. Stunning!
Melissa's work is beautiful and that bedroom with the Bucci piece and Canovas toile is my fave. Thanks for the intro both to Melissa and Andrew Bucci, Courtney!
