Half the fun of running around the house putting scarves and necklaces on your brass animals is simultaneously listening to Ella sing her jazzy 1960 rendition of
Jingle Bells.

Initially I planned to share
House Beautiful's suggested playlist from the late 60s. I assumed it would be loaded with tunes that today are considered iconic. Surely Bing, Nat, and Louis would be mentioned.

But the compilation is actually kind of sedate. More serious than my grandparents' beloved Perry Como. Well, perhaps sober isn't the best description; clearly the editors were trying to create a timeless, sophisticated list devoid of anything too pop. So the offerings encompass the latest recordings from symphonies and choral groups around the globe: folk songs from Britain,
Ceremony of Carols by the Copenhagen Boys Choir, Bach's
Christmas Oratorio.

There is this month a collection of old, popular vinyl Christmas recordings at
Providence. The albums aren't for sale -- just part of the ambiance -- but you can examine them. Whatever style of holiday music you prefer, I hope these vignettes (also from Providence) boost your spirit. I know children enjoy embellishing all kinds of existing things.

If you are having a party, these pale aqua pagoda lanterns would look great clustered on a sideboard or hung in a tree.

Just a little more global-chic: Providence also has a selection of
Dori Csengeri's hand-sewn, leather-backed jewelry. You may have seen it in this month's
domino.

The Hovey sisters have donned their animals with gay apparel as well. That pagoda will be pennies in its cost-per-use. A sure year round favorite.
I know, I saw the sisters' spin -- looks great!
That Louis CD is one of my favorites!!
Mine too Ronda :)
I love the pagoda! Would love it even more out on my patio, on a warm summer's eve (only 6 months from now! ) with a beautiful candle in it!
XM radio has a few channels for Holiday Music. One is very traditional with all the favs!
Ivy -- yes on a patio would be great! I have to say I like a little Keith Richard's during the holidays too :)
I love the pagoda. My goose decoy has his bow around his neck. I am not doing as much holiday decor as usual, putting out my favorites though. It is snowing today in Kansass City!
Karena -- it's always fun to add a ribbon to an old favorite :)
Wonderful Pagodas! They would be perfect. Thanks for sharing.
Stacy -- reminds me of your fabric.
Pagoda lanterns and Harry Connick Jr. Christmas tunes rock. And so do you, Stylecourt.
My mother's favorite was Nat King Cole - Chesnuts roasting on an open fire......
Beautiful holiday posts!
Great song Joni. I think it's Mary McDonald's favorite too.
Thanks Seleta! I love Harry's Christmas music too!
Love the musical suggestions and the vignettes. I'm so glad you bought one of those lanterns! (At least, I believe that last shot is of your home.)
Jennifer -- technically I borrowed it for the evening! Anyway, glad you like the tunes :)
Ella's Swinging Christmas is an all-time favorite of mine. She can make even the most annoying Christmas songs (like Rudolph) sound divine!
Beautiful Christmas posts!
