Setting Up Camp

Inspired by Charlotte and Shelby, and by Anthropologie's Hideaway play tent, I whipped together the beginnings of a bedroom for two little girls.

The bedside tables are from World Market, the linens are from Leontine, and the blanket is from The Pashmina Store.

"Bubble" lamps from Lum.

Two twin beds with simple upholstered headboards from Ballard-- perhaps in "Benson" stripe from The Silk Trading Co.

Or maybe instead, twin beds done up as India Hicks' dad did them. I like the mix of rustic and refined elements here in this holiday house. (Image is copyright 2004 ©David Hicks 1970 Ltd.)

this was inspiring and sweet. do you think that by changing the colours a little it would work for two little boys? (i'm thinking of my two and four year old nephew's jakob and matthew)

charlotte and shelby are beautiful.

Paul -- absolutely! I think the tent comes in a more masculine stripe.

Very endearing.... love it. What fun lamps and cute little tables from World Market. They do have some gems every now and again!

LL Lovely -- I thought the World Market tables were a good find in the ultra budget category. I tried to offer a mix of all over the chart items!

That sublime little tent is sending me over to Antropologie as fast as my fingers can type! Thanks!

We're having a neighbourhood festival and my neighbour and i are having a tent. I would love a big tent like the anthro one... failing that, I may just decorate a target tent!

How fun! It brings back the days of making blanket tents off the top of the bunk beds.

A reader sent in this question:

"We just purchased two canopies for my daughters’ (6 and 8yrs) VERY small bedroom and I have been searching your site for other canopy-ideas. It would be so sweet and clean-looking if both beds “matched” but, of course, both have very particular tastes- one likes pink and the other likes blue and they have each picked out the fabrics they want accordingly. Any ideas on how to make it look less CRAZY than I’m thinking it’s going to be?!
I think we will do white curtains on both beds …. Maybe I should insist on matching duvets? Hate to interfere too much with their creative expression but…..
Any thoughts?"

If anybody is interested in purchasing the same fabric that those tents are made of they can hop over to www.lsfabrics.com. It is only $11.98/yd.
